Impact testing of snowboarding wrist protectors

چکیده
The wrist is a common injury site for snowboarders who often fall onto an outstretched hand. Wrist protectors are worn by some to prevent injuries attenuating impact forces and limiting extension. This paper presents bespoke pendulum test device impacting when fitted surrogate. rig can replicate risk scenarios, while measuring temporal extension angles. Results from testing 12 snowboarding presented, including differences in peak vertical force, the time reach this peak, energy absorption between products. When compared unprotected surrogate, all products lowered force at least 24% increased 1.8 times. Due severity of load case employed, none below 2.8 kN, which value presented literature fracture cadaveric wrist. developed could be used support development new protectors, as well finite element models predicting protector performance.

The efficacy of wrist protectors in preventing snowboarding injuries.
Injuries of the wrist are common among snowboarders and in-line skaters. Wrist protectors have been developed to protect against injury. Some studies support the use of such wrist protection, but others emphasize the fact that wrist protectors may transfer the injury to other locations in the forearm. We conducted a prospective, randomized, clinical study of 5,029 snowboarders, 2,515 in a brace...
متن کاملDevelopment of a method for measuring quasi-static stiffness of snowboard wrist protectors
In snowboarding, the wrist is the most common injury site, as snowboarders often put their arms out to cushion a fall. This can result in a compressive load through the carpals coupled with wrist hyperextension, leading to sprains or fractures. Wrist protectors are worn by snowboarders in an effort to reduce injury risk, by decreasing impact forces and limiting wrist hyperextension during falls...
متن کاملTesting and control of a compliant wrist
This report summarizes the evaluation of a controllable, instmmented compliant wrist. The design of th< wrist and the concept of a remote center of compliance (RCC) have been described in an earlier repoil (CMU-Rl-TR-82-9). The wrist is mounted on a large industrial robot used to load precisely machined parts int( jigs and fixtures on computer controlled machine tools. The robot and the machine...

OBJECTIVE To study injury patterns of snowboarding trauma in children. DESIGN A retrospective case series. SETTING A major pediatric trauma centre. PATIENTS A cohort of 113 children (97 boys, 16 girls), mean age 13.9 years, who sustained 118 injuries secondary to snowboarding. INTERVENTIONS All fractures were treated by immobilization in a cast; 19 children required a closed reduction. ...
